Navigating the Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) Certification
The Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) certification is available for qualified woman-owned small businesses through the Small Business Administration (SBA). Joining the women’s contracting program can make the WOSB eligible to compete for federal contracts set-aside for the program. The WOSB set-asides are for industries where women have been historically underrepresented for example the construction industry. Some contracts are restricted further to economically disadvantaged women-owned small businesses (EDWOSB) which adds the further requirement of income verification.
Up until October 2020, woman-owned small businesses could self-certify for the program. The SBA now requires a full certification for qualified WOSB/EDWOSB through the SBA certification website.
